The U.S. Green Building Council is a 501(c)(3) non-profit community of leaders working
to make green buildings available to everyone within a generation.
Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), LEED is an internationally
recognized green-building certification system. LEED provides third-party verification
that a building or community was designed and built using strategies aimed at improving
performance across all the metrics that matter most: energy savings, water efficiency,
CO2 emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality, and stewardship
of resources and sensitivity to their impacts.
LEED offers building owners and operators a concise framework for identifying and
implementing practical and measurable green-building design, construction, operations
and maintenance solutions.
LEED certification offers compelling proof that you've achieved your environmental
goals, allows you to take advantage of a growing number of state and local incentives,
and can help boost interest in your project.
The LEED Rating System offers four certification levels for new construction – Certified,
Silver, Gold and Platinum – each corresponding to the number of credits accrued
in five green-design categories: sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy and
atmosphere, materials and resources, and indoor environmental quality.
